At its last annual meeting MennoHomes was encouraged to remain responsive to the need for affordable housing. Furthermore, we were given direction to look for opportunities to do more projects even if it means going ahead without government funding. In this spirit MennoHomes is exploring the needs of larger families in acute need of three-or-more bedroom housing options - at an affordable rate.  Examples of those needing assistance in this area are refugee families and Low German families.

To be able to move ahead when opportunity arises, MennoHomes welcomes gifts of money designated for future housing projects. Also, we welcome gifts of land or buildings suitable for family housing projects. Property offered at reduced rates likewise can facilitate action. As can loans of money at no-interest or low-interest rates.

To explore these options further please contact MennoHomes at 519 578-5546 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

One recent donor, after selling a property, said that "out of deep appreciation for a home, I'd like to help someone else also have this experience."

Special Needs Fund

In 2002 MennoHomes established a Special Needs Fund with designated donations of $4,600.

The purpose of the Special Needs Fund is to help keep families in housing operated by MennoHomes.  Threats to safe and secure housing may arise unexpectedly due to decline or loss of income; also household emergencies.  From time-to-time MennoHomes receives applications from families who are short $100 or so a month to meet the rent charged by MennoHomes.  Unable to qualify for a government-sponsored Rent Supplement, and lacking sufficient income to completely cover the rent that has to be charged for a 3-bedroom unit, some families are unable to make the move to a secure and safe place.  Fortunately, people have continued to donate to this Fund through the years.  Many families were able to continue to live at "The Village" because of this type of support.

By establishing a Special Needs Fund, MennoHomes is able to make the difference that counts.  On cheques to MennoHomes please indicate your support by designating the use to the Special Needs Fund. If you want to make a donation to this fund, please fill out the from and select "Special Needs" dropdown and send it in.
